By the campfire waiting for wolves to howl in the night, Sweden

Hear wolves howl at night

Hearing wolves howl is like a call of the wild, a deep link to nature, a reminder that we belong in the untamed outdoors. While seeing wolves is rare, their howls connect us to the heart of the wilderness.

Watch for wolves in the forest

While it's true that during most of our trips we don't see any wolves, there's always that thrilling chance, and it does happen occasionally. The anticipation of a rare encounter adds an extra layer of excitement to your adventure.

Hammock camp in wolf territory

During these two nights we will venture out in wolf territory and set up a hammock camp where a family of wolves roam free. We provide all the gear for a comfortable yet thrilling night in the wilderness.

perhaps the most magical moment of my life

From an article in the New York Times:

“Marcus Eldh, a nature guide and the founder of a tour company called WildSweden, took me along for what remains perhaps the most magical moment of my life: sitting at the edge of a lake, surrounded by a forest and the semidarkness of Swedish summer, listening to the howling of wolves just a few hundred meters away. They knew we were there, of course, but chose to remain nearby, making this auditory encounter one entirely on their terms.”

The program

Wild Camping

We stay two nights wild camping in the forest. The exact location is kept a secret and it is very important that you don't share this information with anyone. We will explain why. We will set up camp at a location that is near the wolves, but still at a respectful distance to not disturb them. On this trip you will carry your own camping equipment (provided by us) and put up your hammock with instructions from your guide. Everyone will be making their food in separate gas kitchens (provided by us) in the company of the group. We provide the following top-quality outdoor equipment:

  • Hammock with mosquito net and rain tarp

  • Sleeping bag 3-season Nordic climate with fresh travel sheet

  • Small pillow with fresh cover

  • Insulation mat

  • Gas kitchen + gas + eating equipment

  • Fjällräven Kajka backpack 100 liter. Please note that you will have to carry your own backpack of at least 15 kg.

I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who is seeking reconnection with nature and self, to connect with likeminded adventurers. It was an incredible experience and I am excited about joining future adventures with WildSweden!

These walks are slow with stops along the way and rarely last for more than an hour. Please only sign up for this tour if you think you will be fit enough for these walks.
